I just installed a Verizon air card to move out of dial up territory.
Would like to try to imbed pics like Forrest and others do. I tried to locate old threads with the process explained but wasn’t sucessful.
Anyone got a link to an old thread or willing to explain it again?
Thanks for the help Walter

That's one way but if I recall other posters use a bit different set-up.
Have to remember that embedding pics gives the dial up puters the fits as the whole page of text and pics gets downloaded at the same time and complicates the dialup reading process.
Thus a greater chance that the dialups will be forced to breeze by and delete reading a thread or have to start the download and come back to read after eating supper hoping it has completed by then.
But that's a small price to pay for quality posting.

Lets not forget that in replying to a embedded post, those pics have to load yet again, in the "heres the message you are replying to" screen..that can slow that down as well.
When I was on dial up, I realized that one or two pics wasn't bad, but get about 6 and it became a hassle.
Replying to the NEXT post and directed to the original poster, saved a lot of time-outing.

Rez,
Thanks for the link. I've got to try it out soon.
It's time for Pif to join up on the broadband bandwagon.
Walter
Pif's stuck away on an island somewhere up there around Mass. of Maine or one of the many,
breathing salt air and just glad for the discovery of noncorded phones.
I understand the communications up there are still pretty primitive and not a whole lot better than Scotland or Wales with just one phone available in the central lobby of the hotels.
So I suspect he'd gladly do a broadband if it was available.

Rez,
After a thread here about broadband access I started searching for a way out of the Wilderness.
I'm not far from Paul but inland a bit. No hope of cable or phone line DSL in the foreseeable future. wild Blue or Hughes didn't appeal to me.
Verizon has good coverage here for their air card unit so I'm out of dial up speed purgatory.
Best regards, Walter

Walter... Merry Christmas
first thing you want is to organize your pics into stories
then resize the ones you intend to use in your story... make sure they are around 100kb... say 50 to 200 kb max
you can make copies and rename them in IrfanView ( and resize them too )
the go ahead and make your post
attach all the pics you want to use in that post... i find that 4 is good for one post...
if you want more... make a 2d post & a third
then hit POST
now open your post and go to your 1st pic... click on it and open it
when it's open mouse over it and right click to get a drop-menu.. choose COPY...
then go back to the post ........ go down to the bottom and click on EDIT
once you're in EDIT... correct teh text and insert your pic where you want it by doing a <control V >
click on apply and repeat teh process for each pic
what rez & sphere were talking about is one reason i like to limit each post to say 4 pics..
also... it allows interaction on you thread.... the reader can respond to those 4 pics... and it helps to focus teh storyMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore

Mike,
Sometimes with dial up I'd resize and put up more than 4, but I like your idea about limiting them to stimulate conversion.
Thanks again Walter
Mike,
Happy Holidays!
Thanks for the concise route to follow to imbed pics. I'll be back working soon and looking forward to trying this technique.
I'll remember the 4 picture limit too.
Have a great NY Walter
then hit POST
Don't you mean PREVIEW Mike?
That's the method I've always used.

Merry Christmas to you and Helen.

then hit POST
Don't you mean PREVIEW Mike?
Depends on how much time you spent composing the message. Once in a while it craters when I use Preview. Less likely to lose your post if you post it and then go back and edit.

No kiddin? I hadn't had that happen.
Since DF finally broke down and got us cable internet for Christmas, hopefully I won't.
Thanks for the info t8.
BTW, hoping to get a picture thread up and running for ya in the next month or so.Live in the solution, not the problem.
If you haven't had a problem doing it via the preview, then keep doing it that way. Might just be a hickup from my ISP.

Make sure to keep that firewall/anti-virus software up to date. Hackers and virus makers LOVE broadband :)

Be looking forward to seeing it.jt8

Mike, have you tried doing it as I and others do, placing all the pics before posting?
You write your entire single-post entry, and let's say it will have three pics in this part of the story, with one or two paragraphs of text before each pic.
Where each pic will insert, leave a "pic insert" spot by hitting the RETURN key twice between paragraphs, instead of the usual once. Do the same at the end.
Then, attach all three of your .jpg files, but when done, instead of doing POST, do PREVIEW instead.
In PREVIEW, click the first of your attached pics to open it, and with cursor and mouse, context-click R key and choose COPY.
Now use the BACK button of your browser to take you back to the not-yet-posted message, which is still editable, and place the cursor at your pic mark, then R click, and click PASTE.
Repeat for your next two pics, and now you can POST.
sounds hi-tech... remember, i'm only half-fastMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Half-fast? No you're not.
Posting with embedded pics, you're too fast. Think half-fast, do it with PREVIEW, and don't jump on that POST button until you are done.
I know, I know. At our age, change is hard. Think how hard it was to figure out how to post those pics in the first place.
But, learning it with PREVIEW is worth the effort. Just like learning how to use the EZ Smart was worth it.
I tried it both ways and can't get it to work. I can't copy the link from the pictures.
I uploaded the jpegs, then hit preview, but can't open the pics to get a link, Vista opens them in the picture viewer.
Ahhhhh! That pesky Vista!
Another good reason I'm putting good old XP Pro in that new system I am having built next week.
Thanks for bringing that up, Tim. There might be a workaround. Have you tried changing preference settings somewhere to disable the viewer? I'm no PC whiz, so I am only stabbing away blind, here.
No I haven't. Most of the pictures I post I have already uploaded to either Picasa or Picturetrail (don't like Picturetrail anymore), so I wonder if I can use a link from there?
I'm not sure about Vista, yet. I do know that the preview system won't work with Mozilla Firefox. You need to post and preview using internet explorer. The embedded pics are visible in Firefox, but the post has to be created using IE.

get the Vista version of Irfanview...

I don't believe it will open his pics in a browser window, which is what he needs to do for this, when he clicks on them in PREVIEW.
What is needed here is the ability to PREVIEW open a post that contains .jpg pics that have been uploaded and attached to it, then open, one at a time, each .jpg, and with the .jpg in a window, context-click it, then COPY, return back, go to EDIT mode so the post can be revised and added to, and PASTE in each pic where needed.
Works well for me using Win XP Pro, but I cannot say what happens with a Mac or when in Vista.
I have vista irfanview on this... it works...
I prefer to open the pic in a new windo... makes it easier..
