Any one else have something different or other ideas?

psychologist, for when i begin to doubt my sanity for being in remodeling
the psychologist woud be good to help the crew play nicely together and get along. how does that make you feel mr lead carpenter when your helper doesn't do what you ask?And how do you feel mr helper when the lead carp tells you what to do all day long. :-)"it aint the work I mind,

we have a kid that works for us part time who is studying to be a psychologist. Makes for some interesting conversationI think you have to be part psychologist to deal with the clients sometimes

i thoght of another.... a PE ... structural & soils
Don't forget the OSHA compliant saftey guy. We worked on a job recently where the GC wanted every sub to do 15 minutes of stretching every morning at 5AM together before anyone was permitted to start work. The safety guy in his orange hardhat and reflective vest was to lead the group. After he informed the iron workers of this they told him to eff himself he quit asking but every other trade had to follow suit. Most exercise a lot of these guys got in the past 5 years.ML
Sounds like Japan.
having good "people" also helps in other ways.
I sub'd a big tile install this summer. The home owners didn't have much respect for any of the tradesmen. The project manager didn't have any respect for any subs that he didn't bring in.
so ... for the first coupla weeks I was just another idiot sub.
the new const house had already gone thru a coupla GC's and a coupla lawsuits to make for an even happier job site. There were weekely site inspections by court appointed inspectors to make sure the build on track.
I stayed late one night, everyone usually scattered early on "inspection night" to stay outta the whole mess. I was there as the inspector came thru ...
turned out the inspector was the PE that I use. He gives my name / number to people he works with that don't have a builder to fix what's broken.
So, after our talk, I made sure to call the designer who I was subing for. Told her to make sure that bit of info got into the PM's ear, as well as the HO's.
that next week, suddenly, I wasn't just one of the idiot subs. All of a sudden I seemed to have an opinion that mattered.
So the more "people" that you have, the more "people" that know your name, can help the ilusion that ya might actually have a clue how to build stuff every now and then!
