For a stable, flat, and squeak-free floor, you'll find that most new products are OSB.

There was one in Mike's yard, at Rhodefest.
Seemed to work pretty good. At least I don't remember seeing a single mosquito...
Mike's cousin, Bruce... The guy that Pete and I went fishing with... Invented the thing. Ask Mike...

Mosquito Magnet... they work great.. but you have to start long before so you can knock the population down and interrupt their breeding cycle..

Do they all work off of a propane tank, or are there some that use a CO2 tank instead? Seems the CO2 would be safer, right?

Bobl,I've got the Liberty model (plugging it in isn't a problem b/c we have some plugs out in the yard) Works great. I set it up a few weeks ago.It does require you change the octenol cartridge and the propane tank every 3 weeks but if you recall how our yard is surrounded by trees, you can imagine the mosquitos we get.Worth every penny.
Hi Doug,
how's everyone?did u pick the Liberty model because of coverage?

I dont have one but...
Consumer reports did a review of a few of them on 5/03. They found them more effective than UV Bug Zappers but not 100% effective. The traps were less effective on a less aggressive mosquito species that carries West Nile virus (Culex) than the more aggressive mammal feeding Aedes variety.
Top marks of only 3 models tested went to Mosquito Magnet Liberty that caught about 3/4 of the mosquitoes in a 25x30 test room. Lentek Mosquito Trap MK01 performed just as well but the Sonic Web ICH500 was much less effective as it relies on sticky paper. It seems that models that have a fan that sucks the mosquitos in when they get close are most effective. they also recommend wheels since they are usually a little heavy and hard to move around.
The overall recommendation was that if the traps are continuously operated under the right circumstances they can reduce the number of mosquitoes.
I bought one last weekend, and am still in the process of setting it up.
However, I've been following the technology since they went public with it. Consumer models used to start at $1800 for the full acre size.
Catching mosquitos is only half of their purpose. they are attracting and catching the female mosquitos, thus interrupting the life cycle of the family groups of the surrounding area.
The box stores apparently sell the attractant and replacement nets in bulk. Each must be changed with each bottle cycle; estimated at about 3 weeks based on running 24 hours a day.
My liberty model has a battery-powered electronic ignition, requiring only to turn on a switch to get the thing running. (Models from 3-5 years ago required priming switches and piezo igniters.) The battery is supposed to be good for the entire season.
I know of several businesses around town that use them; one is an outdoor ice cream bar.
HTH,
