Help!
Ten years ago I used a brush-on coating to protect roof top neoprene pipe insulation in a solar installation from UV damage. Called Halstead 67 x 944 Protective Coating, it was manufactured by Halstead in Greensboro, NC, (P.O. Box 2050) and it worked extremely well. Now I can’t find the product or the manufacturer, or a good alternative to keep the sun from chewing up pipe insulation. I’d welcome any suggestions in locating Halstead or a good alternative to protect pipe insulation from UV damage. Thanks.

If they don't have it maybe they know of similar products.
Bill,
Thanks for the sources. I'll give them a try.

You can wrap a sheet material around it. In industrial applications insulation is often wrapped with plastic or aluminum sheet, made especially for this. One supplier is http://www.mcmaster.com , an industrial supply company. A local plumbing supply house should be able to get it two. It's often called "jacketing", and usually comes in a 3' wide or so roll. You can wrap elbows and joints with aluminum duct tape (real aluminum, not aluminum colored cloth) or purchase pre-formed fitting covers to match the jacket.
Thanks

I don't know if this will work in this application but I often use common latex paint to protect plastics, electrical conduits and PVC junction boxes, from UV damage. The electrical plastics are UV resistant but a few years in the Florida sun still takes a toll. I have found that any good exterior house paint, sometimes selected for nice subdued color to blend with plantings, makes a world of difference.
I also suspect that house paint might be both more readily available and less expensive than a more specialized coating.
