In my quest to build a bunch of purple martin houses for my Son’s fund-raiser, I’ve run into a problem. After doing some research we’re trying to come up with a 1 3/16″ forstner bit to make the holes with.
You can get a look at what I’m trying to do in the attached picture, or download it in PFD format at:

Trouble is, I can’t find a 1 3/16″ forstner bit. Anybody have a source for one? I’ve searched the websites of tool crib/amazon, woodworker’s warehouse, and McFeely’s.
I tried one of those adjustable hole saw/circle cutter things with the “arm” that has a cutter on it. But it quickly plugs up with the rings it cuts out, and it tends to “grab” the wood pretty bad.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
After all, the purpose of the exercises is to make sure we all have the same definitions… mine.

Maybe you can make a jig and use a straight cutting bit in a router.
Not a bad idea - I may try that if the forstner bit doesn't show up soon.
I'm not 100% sure on this though. I wanted to find some tasks the boys could do. I'd rather have them drill a hole in something clamped in a drill press than run a router.
But it's definitely worth thinking about.Change is certain, progress is not. [E.H. Car]
The boys would love running the router! All the noise and chips flying! More Power!!!!
After thinking about it a while, I wondered if a combination of the 2 tools could work.
Drill the initial holes with the forstner bit. Then clean it out with the router.
I still have some time to figure all this out - I'm still cutting parts and such. I'm trying to figure out a way to make a jig to cut the peaked roof parts now. (Homemade trusses)
Might start a new thread on that one.........Psychiatrists say that mental illness affects one out of four people. Check three friends. If they're OK, you're it.
Prolly too late by now, but why not a spade bit? Right size, cheap -- you can modify them easily because the steel is soft.
Boss, I haven't tried this type of Forstner bit but Woodcraft Supply has the size you need. http://shop.woodcraft.com/Woodcraft/product_family.asp?family%5Fid=1917&gift=False&Gift=false&mscssid=09116BCE1236F4EE5A111A32693E2E9B
Thanks, but you were just a minute or 2 too late - Already ordered the other one.
Can't believe how fast you guys came up with answers. I really appreciate the effort.Production is not the application of tools to material, but of logic to work.
