   Apparently there is 'transition cement' available if you go to a plumbing house that has a good stock of various glues. This was just discussed in detail--do a search in the archives or just scan the list. I assume that you have one connection to make and that you are not mixing types throughout an install.

   There definitely is a glue for use on both PVC, CPVC and ABS.  It is labelled as such and available at Home Depot, Lowe's and any plumbing supply.  Use solvent and usual on both pieces and then this glue, like usual.  Works fine.  PVC glue seems to work okay on the combination, but they must make this stuff for a reason, so I mostly try to use it when combining materials.

   If you don't otherwise need threads there, I would avoid adding threads to a DWV system.  Yes it avoids the need for the special glue, but hey!  the "special glue will only set you back about $2.50.  I like the security of those glued joints once the walls are sealed up.

   You could avoid the issue by using threads at the transition.  If there is room...

   Long ago, the first plumber I worked with prefered to use ABS fittings with his PVC pipe.  I don't know why, but he always did it.

   He may have figured, correctly, that the pressure drop through the ell's would be less.  And/or that the lines would be easier to snake.

   He apparently didn't think about the ABS not being pressure-rated, while the (non-DWV) PVC is pressure-rated.

   I have used rubber couplings for this situation if I'm in a remodel and only have the one transition.
