quarter sawn vertical grain clapboards
Am getting ready to install quarter sawn vertical grain hemlock beveled siding over “home slicker plus typar” rain screen with integral house wrap. The siding is 5 1/2″ beveled I believe they are 3/16″ on the top and taper to a thickness of 7/16″on the bottom, with a 4″ exposure. That gives a 1 1/2″ weatherlap. All the window placements and sizes were laid out for this 4″exposure, so all the siding courses will line up with the top and bottom of windows. Would you have a concern about nailing 1 3/4″ up from the bottom, almost in the center of the exposure? Also are you comfortable with nailng board and batten areas to 7/16″ zip board as your nailing base? The house is on an open hill in northeastern Pa. Plenty of sun exposure all 4 seasons. Would cedar be your choice for fascia? Has anyone ever used hemlock for fascias with good results, trying to keep job on budget.

Five and half inch siding, installed with a 4" exposure . . . . I would nail it an inch and a half from the bottom, placing the nail right at the very top of the previous course. In my experience, you nail it higher than that and the nail doesn't set as easily. (tends to bounce some) and you stand a somewhat greater chance of splitting the siding piece. Nail it any lower than that, and you are likely splitting off the very top of the previous course. . . effectively reducing the amount of weatherlap. Perhaps others will weigh in on the other questions you posed.

Of course, some would be horrified at the mention of face nailing at all. (Though not I.)
Will this be painted or left raw? Installed dry? It can bleed heavily soi use a tannin bloccking sealer.
1-1/2" up would be the norm
I like to have blocking behind my B&B to nail at least every 32", and use ring shnk
The siding is to be pre-stained 2 coats. Semi-transparent acrylic. Maze ""nails. What is your thought of going with no window trim.Instlling Marvin aluminum clad.Whole job new construction. The architect originally wanted none then conceded to use of 1 1/4" the more I think of it is it really necessary with good window flashing. The only odd spot might be under window since siding courses align with top&bottom of window How thick will it be when you rip 1 1/2 off it?
