Mice destroyed the insulation in an older oven (10 years?) that is still in perfect working order, but I keep getting conflicting stories from the 7 or 8 appliance repair stores I’ve called. This a regular electric house oven and stove (Magic Chef). The appliance stores are about evenly split on the opinion that you can use regular old house insluation (foil or paper removed) versus the opinion that you need to use a special high heat, non-flammable insulation. I’ve been told you can order “kits” of replacement insulation, but such kits no longer exist for my model number. I don’t see why I couldn’t just order any kit that was for an oven of similar dimensions, but this doesn’t seem to be an acceptable solution to these people. Maybe I don’t even need to order a kit if I can use house insulation.
Does anyone know for sure?
Thanks,
Rufus

Contact your local mechanical contractor and tell him your story and ask if you can buy several feet of foilbacked hitemp 1" insulation.

This site will describe one of the available products. You only need 1 layer of this insulation and it's easy to wrap your oven with.

Gabe,
Thanks for the answer. I've got my local supplier looking for it. The stuff I took out of the oven had no foil, so I assume I should remove the foil before I wrap the oven with the new stuff. Right?
I don't know the effects of removing the foil other than less efficiency. I would leave it on.
