I read the article on tablesaw safety in the July 2006 issue of Fine Homebuilding. The author recommended the conversion of the blade guard into a riving knife. I check the guard on my delta contractor tablesaw and noticed that the metal portion was made of 1/16 inch metal stock. Will this work with a 1/8 inch thickness blade?

Not too effectively but it makes a decent enough template. Go to a scrap yard and see what they have in 1/8" or 3/32" steel.
