Does anyone know which file is used to store ones data in? I need it to share and syncronize it in a network environment. GW

A computer guy tells me that it may not be possible to network Quicken 2000. I may have to backup and transfer files through floppy. GW
I found out that Intuit is not giving tech support for Quicken 2000 any more, after 1/31/2003, I think. I had to pop for Quicken 2003. The accounts I keep for my business enterprises is too important to go without the support.
Greg.
You can't open the files in more than one copy of Quicken at a time, but I know that a number of people do share the one dataset. But I think that it depends on how you give the other computer access to yours.
I have full sharing on my files and printers, yet I cannot seem to syncronize the program from the briefcase to update any changes.
"I cannot seem to synchronize "
Do you have the data on two machines and want to combine any updates done on either machine and data file to the other machine? Similar to synchronize a palm pilot with a pc? If that is the case I don't know if Quicken is capable of that operation.
If you copied the file from a desk top to a notebook at that very moment you would have identical files. Then say you went on a trip and entered some expense info while on the plane and the spouse paid some bills while you were gone, you now have two different files with the same name on two machines. Are you wanting to effectively merge the files back to one again (like a sync)?
Just want to make sure we understand.
Otherwise I have been able to see and use old quicken files on a networked pc just fine.

I want to syncronize any changed data from one machine to the next when data changes through the Briefcase. Since I am the only one using the machines in regards to that program, changes only happen on one machine at a time. I have resorted to just copy and paste the data file QDATA.QDF from one machine to the next. It works. GW

You really don't want to do that. One of these day you are going get into trouble. You want to do it wht QDATA.*
But there is a way to share the drive. I don't run a Microsoft OS any more and use the DOS version of Quicken, but I have heard a number of people do it.
You might in the news group alt.comp.software.financial.quicken.
Also you can search the archive of the news group for some info. The archive are available at google.com then click on GROUPS.

They change it with each verysion and can't be specific, but that might not be the full list. Some of the files are not generated unless you use certain features.
Quicken does not use A FILE for it's data.
It used a FILESET, a combination of several files with all the same name, but different extenions.
I hate windows like a plaque. One of the reasons is that it hides the details.
What you need to do is to copy all of the files with the name of your FILESET.
COPY <fileset>.* A: or whatever methode that you are using to transfer the data.
The default FILESET IS QDATA.
