Happy with how quick and nice this turned out.
Needed to make this pretty – windows are pretty crooked and uneven, but will stay. center window is actually a circle top on the outside, just some nasty plexi in there now – it will go and be opened back up, with a fixed circle-top piece of glass.
Drew up a sketch; the new frame (red) is symmetrical, and will encroach over the existing openings (blue) on all sides. I’ll use stop on the inside edges to trim it out, unseen.
Made this from just stuff leaned up beside the TS. A 2×4, some MDF sheet, SYP 1×6, some 1-1/4″ FJ stop, and some pre-finished 5/8″ MDF. Tiny stop molding around the top is PVC; just heated it over a heat gun and hand-formed it. 3/32″ strip ripped from the 2×4 is the top band, 1-1/2″ wide, tiny nails and glued on.
Looks more Richardson Romanesque than Palladian, but it fits the look of the other trim I’ve made in the rooms, and more importantly, the existing windows!
From the mighty Kreg jig!

Nice! Your place, or a clients? I would love to see a finished pic. Thanks for posting.
Dustin
Thanks!
Clients. It's in that long-azz "Attic Recovery" thread. I'll have it up next week and get a pic.

That's a cool tree. Anyone live in there?
Window's nice too.

Kids say they think fairies live there.
Oh.
Amd maybe a snorfle dragon baby.

Very clever. That will look good in that attic. What do you seal the edges of the MDF with? I always use Bullseye white pigmented shellac.
Chuck Slive, work, build, ...better with wood
Bullseye!
Or sometimes AlexPlus rubbed in.
Bullseye sands up nicer.

What do you think of the alex plus for paint grade interiors? Have you had it crack? I have been using phenoseal and like it much better.
Dustin
I've had just the opposite experience with Alex plus and phenoseal
The phenoseal has cracked, while the Alexplus has stayed flexible.
The Alexplus also seems, to me anyway, easier to work with, and clean up.
I've had zero real trouble with Alex plus. Needs to dry at least 24 hours, or the paint or primer on top will likely crack. Only tip I can offer, other than stop caulking before your index finger bleeds - keeps coming thru paint!

Finally got a picture of the littlest fairy.
