Quieter circ saw blades
Anyone have a preference for reasonably quiet circ saw blades? I’m looking for a new general purpose blade which won’t raise the dead, particularly when cutting plywood.

You don't have to sacrifice historical elements of a house in the name of energy efficiency.

I ran out of sharp 10" blades and threw in a new 7 1/4" blade I was saving for cutting hardwood ply with my circular saw. I'm not sure of the brand, probably Freud, and lots of teeth.
The blade cut so well I finished the job with it. Quiet too IIRC.
Thanks. I get the "lots of teeth" part. That's probably eighty-ninety percent of making it quiet but I was thinkin' that someone on BT must have done a comparison or knew of a comparison test on some web site.

Good reviews but does Makita make it in 7 1/2 inch?
I had one in 7 1/4" but I dropped it. It was so quiet I couldn't tell where it rolled. I'll probably have to wait till spring when thr snow clears.
The Tenryu blades I've got are noticably quieter in a chop saw anyway. IIRC they make at least some of the Makita blades.

Two votes for Makita. We're heading in a good direction.
Hard to go wrong with Blue!
The blade that came with my Makita circular saw was very quiet, with I initially liked. It was one of those ones with the teeth being almost as narrow as the rest of the blade. I had to replace it because it seemed prone to kickback - something I never have had a problem with before.

That shouldn't happen with any modern carbide blade but I appreciate the report. Makes me want to do more research.
My only thought was that because the teeth didn't cut a wider slot than the blade it was more pone to binding. Very disconcerting as I tend to be a bit wild with my saw as the best of times.
I once had a thin blade like that but the teeth were set, like a common steel blade, to achieve a wide enough cut so that the blade wouldn't bind.
So...I finally remembered to pick up a new Makita blade, per the majority opinion here. Being that it's a quiet holiday today and I needed to make a cut I decided to swap blades and try the new one. Muuuuch quieter, even without hearing protection.
I've had the OEM blade in this Bosch circ saw since new. They're not doin' themselves any favors, sending that loudazz thing along.
Thanks to all for the good advice.
I get that with my Makita 18 V.
They have a thin blade with little tooth set so it takes less power to cut.
But changing direction mid cut it binds.
I've learned to cut straighter with it.

It was a nasty surprise. I've never had that happen with a saw. My Porter Cable injured me several times, but I think it was just malicious and I sent it to the dump.
I had the same problem with the same blade... those black factory Makita blades. Thought it was the saw at first until I put a Diablo in. When I replaced the saw recently I had an identical experience with the factory blade again. I have no doubt it was the blade causing the kickback.
That's not a very smart thing for them to do. I really like the saw though.
