I’m thinking of using warmboard in a 600 s.f. addition I am building, kichen and family room and was wondering what people think. I am also installing a new heating system so I will be able to provide the proper water temperature to this room. I know it’s rather pricy, but I do plan on being here for some time. Any and all comments will be appreciated. Thank you in advance, Dan
I should have said this earlier, but I plan on using quarter sawn red oak on the floor.
Thanks once again to all that have answered so far! -Dan

I did a similar project a couple of years ago. I used QuikTrak (the Uponor equivilent of Warmboard) and I love it. We can set the 'stat in these rooms almost 10° cooler and achieve the same comfort level as the forced air in the rest of the house. This setup is in 3 rooms, all tile floors. Two rooms are over ply subfloor, QuikTrak, Hardi, then tile. One room embeded in concrete. All floors are well insulated on the undersides. I used a small Munchkin boiler to provide the heat, set up for 3 zones using zone valves and one pump.
Setting up the heating unit/pump/valves was something I wouldn't have wanted to do without a lot of help, which I recieved from the distributor, the Munchkin factory rep and this forum. Here's a pic of the setup, but I've modified it a bit since this was taken to add a differential bypass valve to keep the flow rates up. Note that these things put out a LOT of condensate, so plan in advance on how to drain it.

Everything fits, until you put glue on it.
Edit: Looking back at it, I woulda painted the mounting board too. DOH! ;-)

and.....don't slobber the purple primer on the pipes. It looks like someone threw something on a Picasso. ;)
Yeah -- I heard that.
At the time I did it, I was thinking I was gonna put this whole setup in a cabinet, so I wasn't being too picky. Still might, but you know how these things tend to go. ;-(Mike HennessyPittsburgh, PAEverything fits, until you put glue on it.
Nice looking job Mike
Dan in floor radiant heat is a real comfort!
One of the great advances in heating.. I do things a little differant because I install my own radiant heating but if you plan on others doing it they will be comfortable using warm board..
One caution. use someone familar with in floor radiant heat to size out the units and the tubing layouts.. In all likelyhood you will need a smaller boiler than other methods of heating. NRTRob is someone I'd look to for those sort of answers..
If this is the only area that will have radiant heat you might be able to heat it with a simple water heater rather than a full boiler..
I have a full house of Warnboard and am very satisfied and comfortable.
I second Frenchy's recommendation regarding NRTRob's company. I used his company, Northeast Radiant Technology, at http://www.nrtradiant.com, to construct my control board. The entire experience was as about perfect as one could hope for.
