What material should I pour over radiant floor heat tubes?
*
I’m planing to install radiant floor heat in a handcrafted log home I will be having built. I plan to use either lightweight concrete or a product such as therma-floor for all of the first and second floor areas to cover the radiant tubes with. I have been getting some conflicting answers about which material to cover the radiant tubes with. Some say lightweight concrete and some say therma-floor. therma-floor people say lightweight concrete will not have the thermal mass qualities a product such as therma-floor has and lightweight concrete people say the therma-floor is to soft a base if you put carpeting (for example) as an overlayment which could break down the therma-floor type products because of the gypsum base of some of these products. The concrete people say if you have rolling chairs You may groove the therma-floor type material over time. Any thoughts to help me out.
