We are soon to be building a new home in Wisconsin with hot water radiant floor heating throughout. Most of the floors will be real hardwood flooring. Do we have to worry more about expansion and contraction, with the heat source just beneath the flooring? The tubing will be covered by 1-1/2″ of Gypcrete.

Eric,
turn on heat and dry out gypcrete. Then rack floor with flooring and leave for several days. Pick back up to clean floor...then nail it.
near the stream,

Off to party downstream tonight... goodluck.
*aj, that reads as a suggestion to nail the t&g to the gypcrete. Is that what you meant? He didn't mention sleepers or anything.Damn, wish I had a party tonight. Saving energy to channel to the Eagles tomorrow.Cheers,Jim
*Use narrow boards. It helps.
*Sleepers are obvious... or will be soon enough!back to the stream,aj
*Just didn't want to see someone try to nail into the gyp. Hey, ya never know. Our gyp installer recommended against sleepers. Don't remember reason. Thus the gluedown. And for a straight gluedown, hardwood isn't recommended. So far, so good on the bamboo as gluedown. Zero noticeable shrinkage thus far in the first heating season (not that 70 degrees in Jan, like today, lets me call it much of a heating season)Jim
