I am looking at the Nuheat floor pad for the bathroom. I would get a pad for the area next to the tub, in front of the toilet and sink – a 48″x36″ mat. I was planning on using a cork membrane under the barrier as a thermal break with the concrete slab. The installation has it going down onto subfloor with thinset… it also says the mat is 1/8″ thick.
I’m thinking about the areas the won’t have this mat underneith. 1/8″ Sounds like a lot of drop off for a tile… is there a way to mitigate this or am I worried about nothing?

Lager notch in the trowel for your thinset....

Lay the mat in thinset and bring the rest of the floor level with thinset then all the tile will be level.

If you're setting small tiles, set the heat wires in mortar and level it out, then let that mortar set up. Once it's set up, then thinset the floor tiles down. With bigger tiles, you can do it all in one step.
I put down a floor heat mat, floated the floor out level, and put down 1" hex tile immediately once. Learn from my mistake. I managed to get the floor level, but I was cleaning mortar from between the tiles for most of the next day, before I could grout.

Keep your heat at least 1' away from the terlet, or you'll have a melted wax ring to deal with.

Wax Ring? Are you talking about those ancient devices that were messy and could sometimes obscure the waste flow and could only be used once? That's so retro! :)
Nothing but new rubber seals used here. Thank you for the tip though, the mat is definitly too close to use a wax ring!Rebuilding my home in Cypress, CA

I used a mat from Warmly Yours. I put it down and then used SLC . to cover it. I used this article from JLC.
That's very helpful - thanks!Rebuilding my home in Cypress, CA
