Rafter foam or blow in in the ceiling?
The Dec 08 issue of FHB has an article about blowing in insulation in your attic, but a friend just had foam srpayed between the rafters in his attic and says that is best. My attic has some loose old stuff from 1941 and I want to upgrade but I’m not sure which is the best way to go. Thanks for any help you can provide.

As long as you have adequate ventilation and necessary room
for the blown in, it would be my choice.
It functions very well and is much more affordable.
Spray foam is not without it's issues while cellulose has
proven to be an excellent alternative.
There is no 'best' for all situations.
Type of construction, climate, budget and other things all effect that decision.
And there are various kinds of foam as well.
