Tried them for the first time this past summer at the homeowner's suggestion - one section only. It went through a couple rains here in the midwest. Sounded like a good idea, but the owner's were less than impressed and we removed it and went with regular gutters.
I really don't like to put out negative feedback and this should not be taken as a that or a complete evaluation. However, I would suggest buying a single section and trying it out before you do a complete install.
My inlaws have them on their house and won't go back to regular gutters since they have two big hickory trees in their yard the neighbors have a couple of big trees too. Cleaning gutters would be a never ending nightmare on their house. A couple of sections were damaged by hail this summer so they'll get replaced when the roof does in a couple of weeks.
I think it would depend on the house, the surroundings, and the look that the homeowner is looking for. A lot people (myself included) don't like the look of these things installed.
