I have not put out poison traps the last couple of years around the perimeter of the house to protect the birds of prey. We use the poison that is a blood thinner and not a strychnine. Now we have rats in the attic. I put strychnine in the attic and the poison traps around the house again as before. Now they are dying in the attic and the smell is as one would expect. One drowned in our pool yesterday. Any other suggestions? At present we don’t hear them crawling around. Maybe we got them. I don’t see anything eaten in the poison traps yet but I understand that that takes time for them it begin feeding.

Make sure your insurance is up to date and burn it.
Sounds like a trip to the attic is in order. It's not going to be pleasant, but if ignored it will only get worse.
Wear rubber gloves.
Wear rubber gloves.
And, at the very least, a dust mask. Some nasty stuff in rat poop.
