Hi Folks.
I’m going to re-shingle my shop roof. I want to shingle over the interlock shingles with a 30 yr 3 tab shingle.
Will I see the shadow of the interlock under the 3 tab. The interlock are not in bad shape, no raised edges, but will need to be replaced sometime in the next 5-10 yrs. The interlock were rated 25yr when I put them on in 1983. I would like to do it this year because age is catching up and I want to get it done while I can do it myself.
I could take the interlock off but it would be easier to leave them on if possible.
Can I leave them on or should I do it the right way and strip off the old?
Thanks..
Ed

3 tabs will not hide interlocking shingles, T-locks or Goslin shingles.
Where they overlap is quite a bit thicker than the middle of the shingle, the new shingles will highlight that.
Are you suggesting I re-roof with T-Lock or goslin?

Yes, it will hide the other layer alot better than 3 tabs.
I'm against putting new roofing over old under any circumstances. My standard arguments are:

using three tabs over the interlocks is a bad idea. It will shadow, llook bad, and not last as long as it would other wise.
T-Locks were developed for two purposes, one was wind resistance, the other was for roofing over old cedar shingle roofs
