Hi,
Before you just say “don’t install them” too bad… we’re usin em!
Now, if anyone has anything constructive to say, I need to know how air tight are the “washington state approved” cans and how can I make them better safely. Can I seal any holes, especially around the cable entrance, with caulk or duct tape? Can I make an air tight styro box around each one (without a fire)? Are there any premade things of this sort? Etc…?
Thanks,
Jason

You can seal them with caulk rated for at least 90 degC (194 F), real duct tape, the foil type, not the gray universal type, can be used, you can build a box around the with 5/8" GWB (drywall) and insulate the outside of the box. Don't know about prefab enclosures.
*Only seal airtight containers.... like Juno possibly. Use fireproof materials... and airspaces.near the stream,ajTrack lites are a far better solution...
*Jason, those "Washington st" airtite cans are rated IC for insulation contact. Use the gasket that comes with them and pack insulation around them. I wouldn't bother trying to further seal an already "airtight" can. Don't take a chance on causing an overheating situation....
