Hello, I plan on using #3 rebar in an 18″ grid pattern on 2″ chairs for my garage and basement slabs (4000 sq ft @ 3500 psi/Fibermesh) and was wondering if I space the chairs at 18″ or can I go to 36″ spacing?. I can’t seem to get a straight answer from the concrete guys I know, they all use wire mesh and say the rebar is useless, but it seems to me the mesh always ends up in the bottom of the slab.

you can space as big as you want as long as the rebar off the ground.
As Brownbag says.
But I always use 'dobes, the little concrete blocks made for the same purpose. Get the ones with the wires. Usually come in 2" or 3".
Those metal chairs are a PITA...often flip over and drop the bar during the pour.
