Construct the intersecting gable on the main roof for a faster, easier-to-build assembly.

Can't write specifically about TX, but I can tell you about LA, at least LA as of a week ago. I'd venture that TX is in the same boat, but with a learning curve maybe slightly better organized.
Carpenters are needed everywhere.
If you can get there you can work.
FEMA was clueless.
Other "officials" were for the most part clueless, as most of them (military/PD/FD) are not from the area and are in reality doing nothing more than protecting areas from looters and "observing."
Best bet is to hitch up with a local church. They define networking in action. They have the local knowledge about what is needed, wherew it's needed, and they have the resources to make it happen, but not the construction knowledge to get the hammers swinging. The members follow directrion well and will work, they just need someone to direct them.
thanks a lot. i'm heading out from corpus christi to beaumont or port arthur tomorrow morning. i've never done this before but i'm hoping to find some work and help someone in need without ripping them off like a lot of people are doing.thanks for the info.

My wife was on a plane to Atlanta the other day and the woman sitting next to her is from Beaumont, the woman said that she wasn't allowed in, she was headed to her daughters for 4 weeks.

just got back from Beaumont, it was no problem getting in or anywhere around the city. they did have a curfew set at 7:00 PM. no hotels in the city are open and not a whole lot else.
in many neighborhoods that we went through ,espescially those with large trees, the damage was incredible.most all of the damage to houses occured from huge fallen trees, this is a very wooded area.
we camped in a trailer park full of generators running all night long. the carpentry work has, as far as i can tell, has not yet begun. still a lot of clean up to do. we may go back in a few weeks.

You might check with James Duhamel and see if he can give you any info that will help.
