Some genius remodeled this house in the 70’s, with an ax as a primary tool.
The shelves, post cap, cornice, pediment, etc. were all hacked off flush with the wall so they could run cheap, cheesy paneling over everything.
I was hired to rebuild it. The built-up casing is made from a rip of MDF Victorian base, and a basswood basecap stacked on top.

Very inventive and it looks nice.

Dane,Here is a better photo of the casing.I'm glad you liked it.
Who is going to to the finish painting you or the HO? When it is all done it will look as good as new again. I take it that the paneling will be or has been taken out.
I hope that you can get some pictures when it is all finished.

Dane all the ugly paneling was removed by the HO, and they will do the painting and will let me know when complete so I can get pics of the finished project. I will also try to get before pictures from the HO. These owners are good painters and photographers, so I should have a good post to add here in a couple of weeks.
the 60's & 70's was Hell on old trim. If you were lucky, they just painted it. The more barbaric ones...well you apparently ran into some of them ;)
