Resided this house in Parkdale, Toronto this past month as well as making myself a paddle for a canoe trip I went on with the scouts. To make the shaft completely circular I held the paddle with a loose grip and let it spin on my belt sander. I couldn’t balance the last foot or so of the shaft so I dadoed a slot into a two foot length of broom stick and taped it to the blade of the paddle and ran a lag screw into the end of the broom chucked into my milwaukee hole hawg. That got held in a vise and I made a cradle to hold the shaft and then sanded it perfectly circular. A very crude lathe.
The sheathing was random length, width barn boards nailed on with square nails very cool. It got all nailed off (it was coming off in places!) and a lot of the exterior studs and sheathing got replaced due to excessive rot.
Another interesting fact…11 inches between the houses, we had a custom make brackets to lag screw into the house and start from the top down, made things a little more interesting. Siding is Hardie Panel with battens 24″ o.c, neat product to work with.
The last is a outdoor shower we did for a client, matched to the house board and batten, the plumber came in a put that unfinished box on the wall to hold the sprayer etc… so I pre-primed everything and assembled it with pocket screws and 3 1/2″ Stainless screws and TBIII, I couldn’t believe the strength of the joint. The job was a 30 second walk from the beach and they had us over for an amazing dinner after we finished up.
