Still looking to insulate this attic, I’ve some recessed lights to deal with. I thought they were non-ic rated because they had “IP” in a big circle at the bottom of the light and the web says tht means internally protected. The last insulation guy showed me where in pretty small type up top they say “I.C. type ” or Soo… I’m guess it can be rated both IP (thermal shutdown) and IC (insulation contaction)? As long as it says “I.C type ” it’s safe to cover? It just confused me that it said both.
thanks

Find the make
and model number if possible and look it up online to see how it's rated.
The label inside the can might also say something about insulation contact.
