Hello everyone, I am building a house in which my windows will be recessed in 2 5/16. After googling some images, I like the clean and modern look of some windows with a simple frame like the attached image. My question is, can I use 2X material that I can rip to make sure they’re straight and cut to the dimension I need to accomplish this? Also, would ground contact work or do I need to do cedar? My plan is to paint a charcoal color to match fascia and soffits with a white Hardie board and batten style siding. I think I would like 1.5 inch thickness. Also, can some decking 5/4 board do the trick? Thanks

Be sure to use dry material or it will shrink and probably warp in a few months.
