I finally finished it today. I started on it last year, plugged away at it slowly but surely.
It wasn’t hard, finding the time to work on it was hard.
I got all the lumber for this table off a job, it was a stud wall with the studs at a 45 degree angle. The HO said it was ugly and wanted it gone, I had it loaded in the back of my truck by the time she finished talking.
All 1-1/2″ x 6″ x 8′ stock. I got a few dozen planks of it. I made this coffee table, and I put the last coat of finish on a table for my 55 gallon aquarium tonight. Pictures of that tommorrow possibly.

You got that right!! Husband has been promising to build a little bench for us out of cherry and hickory....Except, he hates hickory!
Both cherry and hickory are beautiful.
Cherry is fairly easy to work with, Hickory not so easy. I hope thats your husbands reason for hating it. I really like the color contrasts in it. Thoughts determine what you want,Action determines what you get
That's it exactly...The contrast is gorgeous, but the hickory is a PITA, according to him....
Nice job Stilletto. Love the finish on it. Beautiful.

THanks JD, the finish took quite a while. Two coats of gel stain, 1 coat of amber shellac (really warms the woods color), and 5 coats of Tung oil, linseed oil, and alkyd varnish. I got that recipe from Nikkiwood and Sphere here.

Dude, I am turning away work, cuz I work full time with Grant. If you want to, say, repair rotted porch columns, fabricate corbels and cornice, trellises, arbors, or get on with us roofing. The sky is the limit.
Really, Dale hired his soon to be BIL, and he went back to Cincy. for the Union wage, then hired his sweetie, who left for an office job. We have room for another body.

Well, I don't know when, and it ain't an IF..it is called being realistic, and seeing the future as it will play out. I am not aspiring to be a Walter the slate man, and get a new hip and keep on roofing into my fifties and beyond... God Bless him for carrying on like he does.
I don't know what I want to do after this ...I love what I do, but I am also pretty certain, there is still some unfinished bidness, i need to contend with...one way or t'other, It will get my attention, and there I go after it. I am pretty shure I ain't going too far away from what I do now..it'd be a side step, not a leap.Inmate # 40735 At Taunton Federal Penitentiary.
We are thinking about moving south pretty hard. Her Brother is moving to Nashville TN. in July, my cousin already lives there. So we wouldn't be too far away from family.
And if I can find a few contractors to start subbing work off of I'd be set until I get my license there. I already carry comp and liability here, just have to start again down there. Might even be cheaper there who knows.
I don't need convincing of moving she does.
I talked about moving alot, everywhere south of here. Hawaii and Kentucky,Tennesee areas have been discussed lately. All I know is I don't want to weather another winter here.
As for replacing you, that isn't possible. You have forgotten more than I know my friend.

Come on down, Madison County is the fastest growing Co. in KY. My work is up in Lex area..Fayette Co., Bourbon Co, and such...but really, Madison is exploding with growth..we just don't get work around here like Grant gets in his area.
My WC is pricey, but I am not a roofer, I am a wood worker.
My GL is about 1k a year for a million coverage, which is pretty standard as far as I know. I think Dale has a lesser amt. and pays less, but for my luck...well, ya never know...LOL.

Insurance sounds fairly close, my policy is around $1,200 a year for GL. But thats only for $500,000 in coverage.
My WC went down, when I opened up the policy we were framing a house every other week or so. Framing insurance was ridiculous! But my agent cut the rate in half last year, said that his company no longer considered framing high risk. SWEET!

I think roofing WC is about 66% of gross, and my policy doesnot even cover ME, just my subs/employees ( of which I don't have). So there ya go..........Inmate # 40735 At Taunton Federal Penitentiary.

I had one face to face audit with a Co. Rep, and one mail in audit. That shows I had no employess or 1099 subs.

That's a nice looking table you've got your tank on. I suspect most of the store bought stands are enclosed cabinets just so you'll have a place for the 200 knick-knacks that keeping an aquarium entails.
Dang, that is a sweet looking cabinet for the 90gal! You're going to have to show us both setup. What you going to do with the 55 now?
Good thing I'm neck deep in a project right now, otherwise I'd be tempted to dig that 55 gal tank out ;)

Mahagony wall studs in Michigan??? Was up with that?
It was for decoration, the wall was in between the kitchen and dining room. No sheetrock just bare studs. Finished with shellac.
I'll take a picture of the plate tommorrow, might explain better than my jibberish.
Thoughts determine what you want,Action determines what you get
Oooooh, that explains it. Sorry about that, for a moment I thought someone framed up their whole house with mahagony, Then I thought well maybe you lived someplace exotic, where they used mahagony for framing. When I looked at your profile it said michigan and I got confused. But I'm OK now, mystery solved. Nice table by the way, keep up the good work, Especially nice when its used that way and not laying in some landfill somewhere.

I have been sitting looking at blank screen for three minutes here.
When you embed photos that are such gigantic size, it is the same as shoving food down a guest's throught. No matter how good it is, the guest will gagt on it.
Same here - with dial up, the system locks up and I can't use the computer for several minutes after clicking this sort of thread, so PLEASE have a heart. If you embed the photos, keep them under 100KB size. If you have to use over that, do not embed them and let use dial-uppers have a choice whether to download while doing something else or not.
Please?

Thats odd, My Dial Up is clocking at 24,6oo and those pics popped open in about 15 seconds. Me thinks you may have another glitch somewhere....just guessin tho'.Inmate # 40735 At Taunton Federal Penitentiary.
Which ones? Those 670KB - three on the same post means about two megs trying to open all at the same time. I normally never try to get one more than 200KB, but it has to be enticing to go for it over 100KB so two thousand is a choker

Once things choke, nothing works until things get sorted out. Lot of PDF downloads do the same thing. At least with them, I see the pdf extension and know to watch out.Same thing with threads like Mike Smiths pictorial. I have to turn off other programs and go get a cup of coffee or lean back to watch the news. Still, it is bad enough - there are advise notes every single day here asking posters to keep attachments down in size - but it is when it is embedded and shoved at you that it gets downright rude. If I want 650KB, I can make a decision whether to try it or not. No need to force three of them down my throat all at the same time.
Welcome to the Taunton University of Knowledge FHB Campus at Breaktime. where ... Excellence is its own reward!
Pif, those in the first post. I too shy away from the attached pics that exceed 150, and ESP PDF's..cuz my Adobe seems to take a week to play around too long loading.
I was suprised the other day that someone had some GIFs attached, and usually they too LOOK big ( file size) but, they opened right quick.
Other pics, in JPEG, at a certain "cut-off" size, I have yet to determine, come up looking like an abstract art rendition, of a photo..all pixelated, and muted tones, without any real ability to make out the picture.
Yet some other JPEG's even at the biggazz size look clear, they just make me have to scroll all around to see the whole picture, which is just as annoying, cuz ya can't grasp "the whole picture"...
I am not a wizard for sure, but there are other factors involved, I think. It might be the 640/480, or 600/800 type deal going on, but those are what I post at..and I guess it works, cuz no one has said that it doesn't...now Boss Hogs pics, in the Farming Thread, I have to slide wayyyyyy left with the window and hide the thread title screen to view them as a whole, but other than that, I can't figgure out much more.
If you had issues any of my pics in the Photo gallery of "dormer Mania" please advise, I'd be happy to facilitate, rather than scare away, potential viewers.Inmate # 40735 At Taunton Federal Penitentiary.
I didn't ever look at the farm thread and ddon't even recall seeing the dormer thread - and someadeez guys think I'm all seeing, sheesh!A file size doesn't always indicate screen size of photo size or clarity because of so many variables like DPI and number of colours used. A GIF is another compression format like JPEG but usually faster /better with line drawings like CAD stuff but it does pretty good with photos too.I generally don't want to spoil anyone's fun and just stay out of the photo threads unless I put my other programs away and have time to burn, but like I say, when the very first post is chock full to overflowing...

took six minutes for that page to oad all those in the first twenty posts.
