I am on a project that I need some advice with?
Short story first, Very close friend of 20yrs, dying of cancer, I am providing all labor for house repairs before his demise (est 12 months) so his wife will not have to worry about such things. Also must keep material cost to minimum.
We are currently finishing up a new screened in porch to replace 25 yr old patio cover. Also replacing 15 yr old wooden fence 1x4x6 cedar.
Friend would like for me to recycle the fence and use as the interior for the porch. I ran a few pieces through the planer and it looks great.
Now the big question or 2, I will be installing directly to BC3/8 ply. Will I need to sticker these planks for a while for MC reasons or since it will be installed in an open atmosphere so to speak do I need to worry at all?
Next , would you t&g the material, butt joint, lap joint and why? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My friend is very capable at this time to run my planer and rip the material so i see this a very doable thing as my time will be more the install and maybe some milling and he will feel some accomplishment also.
Thanks in advance. Mike K

Unless it has been very rainy the last couple of weeks I don't see any need to slicker it.
Yes I would T&G or 1/2 lap it. It is going to move. It you didn't you would either have buckeling or gaps shows.
Go which either is easier. Probabl a dado blade in the TS and making the cuts for the lap.
It is realy nice that he can help. Not only does it show allow him to fill usefull it will give his wife and reminder.
Thanks for the reply Bill.
I figured that by the time we get it all through the denail, clean, plane, rip and mill hopefully it will be fine LOL. But I wanted to ask. I think the lap joint would be the quickest and easiest and that was sort of the way I was leaning and then again a t&g would look nice also with a V groove but I think the thickness will be a problem for that. I believe that it will end up at 3/8 thickness at best.
I agree with you on the more memories for spouse.
Thanks again for your reply and suggestions.
