Reducer Strip/Glue?

I have a just shy of 1/2 inch toe popper from bath tile job to hardwood floor. With only an inch of width that makes a thin reducer. If I coat all sides of this thing with polyurethane(keep it dry) what would make a good glue to seat this? Nailing would likely splinter it or split it.
