Hey guys,
I read in another thread about some of you that work only by referrals. I didn’t want to hi-jack that post so started a new one.
What about referrals that go bad and become a dead end?
We get alot of referrals too and at the beginning the folks are lavishing praise and are so excited to be working with us….then the estimate gets produced and their tune changes to “Can you do it with any less quality…we don’t need the Taj Mahal?”
Anyone ever have that happen? I just think its kind of funny when you have folks call you because you did work for someone else they knew and were the best thing since sliced bread but then when the money talk starts, they are ready to call someone else.
Maybe their friend that referred us intentionally misquoted the cost THEY paid to make it look like they got this top notch job for a deal? Who knows…

I wouldn't read too much into it. You were referred as the best. You are the man. If I was doing something I would call Mike.
Probably never came up in the conversation that you weren't cheap...........just did a hell of a job, timely and neat.
or, totally different job descriptions, nothing to really go on.
I am always surprised, well not really i guess. People have a number in mind b/4 they call. Based on not much, only they got this number.

Tell them that if they liked the quality of work they saw at the othr job, then this is how much money it will take. And if they want to spend less, you can change the scope of work or use different materials, but it won't be the same end result.

Everyone suffers from initial sticker shock.
Heck, I remember one time when my Dad used visited, he freaked he saw an invoice and discovered that I was paying more than 35 cents for a 2x6.
