G’ day –
In re-finishing a maple floor, I’m noticing that my first coat of thinned urethane seems to be pulling away (or into) some (but not all) of the seams between pieces of flooring. I’ve sanded down to bare wood through three grits, vaced and tacked thoroughly, and applied the first coat with a lambs wool applicator. It looks even, that’s to say not too heavy or too thin, but there is this occassional pulling away of urethane around some seams. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Markfitz,Hi, This one's right down my line. I believe you are seeing wax creeping out from the cracks.
I also believe you should buff it with a screenback about 120 grit and apply another coat. It should then be satisfactory. Good luck
