Hey all,
I have a 1922 house with original hardwood floors. I sanded to bare wood on white oak (40, 60, 80, 100) then used full trough wood filler, dried, sanded back, and finished with 100 grit. So far have laid down 1 coat of the bona oil-modified poly floors finish.
The problem is I have these light colorations where some of the wood filler is still found. I can’t make sense of it. Not every place where the wood filler is does this light coloration occur and sometimes the coloration is splotchy even on the same board or if the filler is on a larger spot.
Any ideas to what is going on or how to correct the issue?
Thanks for any advice…

Did you select a wood filler that was designed to be stained and match your white oak?
you probably need a sanding sealer to try to make the penetration of the finish uniform.
As Uncle Mike asked, is the filler designed to be stained?
other thought is how uniformly thick is the filler? if it's thicker in some places than others, probably absorbing the finish differently
good luck
