refinishing wide pine floors and make them look like old “pumpkin pine”
I have an old home built in 1840 with wide pine floors in many of the rooms…several have that old “pumpkin pine” color. What can I do to reproduce that color in the floors that need some sanding? Is there a formula for some type of stain, varnish, etc.?
Also, what type of finish should I use for durability? I’ve heard that some like to use a “gym floor finish”.
Thanks for any ideas,

Of course you can get a stain either stock or tinted to match what you're after. I go to a good paint store with a gorgeous technician and find the experience very pleasing to the eye. She can put together color to match even better than the computer aided reader.
I like products from Fabulon, they don't seem to alter the color or tone of the wood. Being latex, easy cleanup (tho a bit harder to apply as they flash off fairly quickly.
Shellac will aid you in an orange finish on top of what you stain. Easy to apply, repair and touch up. Noxious. Not as "hard" a finish as the urethanes. Most urethanes will amber the color just a bit-but that's what you seem to be after.
