Refrigerant line ice cold outside, warm inside

When the outdoor temp reached a humid 90 degrees outside, our LG mini-split didn’t cool indoors. The ceiling unit’s temperature was 85, just like other areas of the ceiling. Outdoors, both compressor lines running into the house were ice cold, even collecting frost on an exposed spot. Is it time to call a professional? I can’t think of what an easy fix might be.

Likely the evaporator coil inside the air handler unit has iced up. This can be due to reduced airflow (fan turned too low or something blocking the airflow) or it can be due to refrigerant leaking out.
Temporarily, turn the AC off for a couple of hours, leaving the fan running, to melt the ice off the evaporator. When you turn it back on, make sure the fan is turned all the way up on high, and leave the fan on high until the place has cooled down and the indoor humidity dropped. If that fix isn't permanent then you need to call the service guy.

My systems have permenent filters that can be washed. Some systems have replacable filters. If this is the case they should be replaced. The best times for cleaning or replacing filters are at the beginning of the heating season and the beginning of the cooling season.
