Hello All,
I’m looking for some suggestions on how to rebuild an exterior framing wall without disturbing the existing stucco wall.
I’m working on a remodel (110-year-old house in a Chicago historic district ) and part of the project is to convert a covered porch into a fully enclosed space (kitchen addition). Once we had demoed the interior stucco wall of the porch we discovered the 2×6 wall and 3/4 tongue and groove sheathing were rotted away due to a leak in the flat roof above.
The exterior stucco was basically freestanding and is currently. The stucco is 7/8 to 9/8” thick and applied with metal-wire lathe on top of corrugated metal furring strips (they look like long masonry wall ties).
The stucco wall has some original historic features that would be hard to replicate so we’d like to avoid demoing the entire wall and starting over.
What would be the best way to rebuild the 2×6 wall and plywood sheathing and drainage plane from the outside in?
