I am thinking of relocating to Raleigh, N.C….Does anyone know the employment situation for a journeyman carpenter in that area.
Thankyou

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

Not too close but similar country, I have a brother in Andeson SC and a BIL in Charleston SC. They both have a hard time keeping up with all the work but there are a lot of hacks or crapenters around to force prices down too.

Bucksnort Billy is from that area, me thinks. Search him out and send him a note. Or put "Moving to Raleigh" as a thread title and he might find it.
Framer, I pretty much grew up in Raleigh and framed there for about nine years. I still have a brother there who is a residential electrician so I still know fairly well how things are going.
As a matter of fact I am driving down there next week on the twenty second for the whole week of Thanksgiving. If you want to know anything about Raleigh specifically I can probably tell you, or find out for you.
Hopefully bucksnort billy will come through here, I believe he lives in Chapel Hill. Just a stones throw from Raleigh.
Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] and I will help you out any way I can.
Clay,
Thankyou for the reply and so soon. I doubt I will move to N.C. until summer, I do want to e-mail you and get any job info. (framer) that will be helpful to me.
Thanks again,
Framer
I live in Durham, about 15 minutes north of Raleigh, (we call this area the triangle, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh) There is another big town called Cary right in the middle of all this. In a few more years this will all be one big city.
Anyway, there was a huge boom a few years back, the triangle is (was) a big high tech center, Nortel, IBM, Cisco, GE, Glaxo all have or had big campus' here. During the 90's this area exploded, you could barley finish hanging up a for sale sign and you would have offers. After the tech bubble burst a lot of the big name firms started closing and or letting go a lot of folks. I've seen streets in Cary with three and four houses for sale on one block, and they are still for sale.
There is still a lot of new construction going on, mainly big apartment complexes, there are two going up right near where I live. I doubt you would have trouble finding work, but things are a lot different now. It is a very nice place to live. I'd be happy to hook up with you when you get here, show you around a bit. Shoot me a line.
