Relocating sump pit and foundation concerns
Hi All. What a great forum.
I have a 1969 constructed tri-level home with the lowest portion approximately 48″ below grade with a full story above it. I’m currently re-working some in slab plumbing to accommodate a new shower in my existing 1/2 bath and relocate a sump pit that was installed in the corner of the garage-accessed basement right next to (almost in front of!) the egress door.
The 24″ deep, 18″ diameter sump pit was added ten years ago following the weeping system discharge into the sanitary line becoming clogged. When the pit was added in the corner of the foundation, it appears that part of the footer was removed to accommodate pushing the pit as close to the walls as possible. There appears to still be about 1-2″ of footer exposed of the 3-4″ that was originally there. That and the vertical excavation directly below the footer concerns me.
There are no cracks in the foundation CMU walls and this has been in place for over a decade. In removing the sump pit, what can be done to shore up the foundation that was, I assume, compromised. Please see the attached photos. Thanks so much in advance!

Fill the hole with concrete.
Thanks, Andy. That's what I was originally thinking. Should I add any reinforcement with rebar or just use a mix with a high compressive strength?
You could drill a couple of holes in the existing footing and add some rebar to tie the two together. Mainly though, you're just replacing the empty space next to the footing to give it something to push against.
