The pass through between my kitchen and family room is 13 wide. I’m going to build a partition wall with a much narrower doorway to put some separation between the rooms. The family room ceiling is higher than the kitchen and family room is wider than the kitchen. So, as you walk into the family room, the entire opening has outside drywall corners with corner beading. When I build the partition wall, the new drywall on the partition wall will butt up against the corner beading on the existing walls. Should I tear our the corner beading before I put up the new drywall so I’m just taping drywall to dryall. Or should I butt the new drywall up against the corner bead and tape over it? I’m afraid the corner bead could get in the way of the butt joint.
I would greatly appreciate any advice.
Thanks.

Why not strip back the entire wall, and hang new?

Frank, remove the corner bead and butt the new sheetrock up and tape over.
Thanks for the responses. I'll use both of them. I'll remove a two foot wide piece of sheet rock on the side of the opening and start from the corner with a solid piece. I'll pull down the corner bead along the top of the opening. The top of the opening connects with a wall that goes up to a pitched ceiling in the family room so I'm not taking that down.
Thanks guys. I appreciate your input.
