I bought a 1923 cabin on a lake and I’m in the process of a few remodel jobs. I’m going to remove carpet from a bathroom floor the problem is that they used indoor/outdoor and of course glued the carpet to the floor. Is there an easy way to remove it?
Thanks for the help.

What kind of floor? I have pulled glued down carpet from concrete floors and pulled up underlayment with glued down carpet on wooden floors. Never found an easy way, other than cutting the carpet in small enough strip that I would not wreck my back. A helper with a scrapper is also usefull.

*Tim,Good luck on this one - there is no easy way that I have heard of. We've had some luck using a commercial heat gun on occasion. Some glues will lose some of their holding strength upon heating.Glue/backing residue can be cleaned up with a commercial floor buffer - use a black pad and coarse washed sand (obtainable at your local redimix plant).Good luck,Cliff.
*I had problems with this also. they do make a carpet padding glue remover. I tried it it softened it up but still had to scrape. Got the remover and scrapers at a flooring supply house. Its called "Big D's".I think that they are only in Orange County, calif. though. But you might want to try to look for one in your area.
*Tim:I have done two jobs like this. After fighting the glue for a day on the first one, I decided on the second job to tear out the flooring and replace it - much faster and therefore less costly than scraping glue. Good luck, Tim
*We use an 8" wide razor scraper with a telescoping (to about 6') handle that works fantastic. They are available from carpet dealers. The last resort is a 7" grinder set up with a wire wheel. This always works.
