I have a lally column in my basement I need to remove. I’ve already shored everything around it…but can’t figure out how to crank this thing down. Everything I’ve seen online indicates these usually have either a nut or a spot for a wrench below the threaded portion to raise/lower. Mine does not have that …only a hole at the very bottom.
Does anyone know how to lower this? Does the hole serve a purpose?

The hole is for a piece of rebar or whatever to use to raise or lower the screw jack. Of course, I have never seen them installed with the screw jack at the floor.
They came with a solid steel rod that slid into that hole to crank it down. Sometime still needed a pipe cheater. Squirt liberally with wd40
You might get a bite below the threads with a pipe wrench....
Perfect! Thanks for the recommendation. Used a giant galvanized 12” nail and it worked like a charm. Many thanks!
