Does anyone have any ideas for removing caulk from brick. The brick is a softer brick so aggressiveness with cleaning techiniques need to be considered. The caulk off the adjoining surface is not a problem but the brick(being rather porous) is another story.
The caulk is not a silicone based caulk and is about 4 years old and hardened.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Try an icepick.
A combination of heat gun, putty knife, chemical paint stripper, and wire brush come to mind. I suffered with this on my own house and found the combination worked pretty well, though still time consuming. Heat gun and putty knife the major stuff, then use paint stipper and the wire brush to finish off.
Thanks, did not think of using paint stripper. Will have to test to see if it works on the caulk that was used.
Thanks for your response.

I would chisel the bulk of it off with a hard scraper blade. Then apply chemical paint stripper to a SMALL section. Wait an appropriate time and then hit that area with a low end pressure washer using hot water if possible - maybe 1300-1500 psi. Only trouble I see here is that the purpose of the caulk and the hot high pressure washer are sorta at odds with one another.

Yet with the stripper, chisel, wire brush and the others, the high pressure might have a chance at cleaning the brick so the new caulk job looks like new not redone.
Thanks for your response.
