Around here, lumberyards let you use their blower if you buy the insulation from them. And some rental places have them, for the people who go to the big boxes and buy their insulation.

Cellulose doesn't seem to be a regionally popular material here -- Not even HD sells it. When FredL came down from VT and insulated my house, I bought the cellulose locally, but they had to bring it in from their Massachusetts yard. I'm using up the excess that I bought three years ago, so I doubt they'll extend me the courtesy of a loaner now. The rental yards all seem to have weeny little machines, and I'm hoping someone knows of a place with a machine that has some horsepower.Andy Engel, Forum moderator
Andy,
Down here on Long Island celluose is also not used much, in fact, most people here think I'm nuts for not using FG. Anyway, after calling every rental yard on LI, I found two that rent blowers (local places, not nat. chains). That led to a source for the cels. By the time I was ready to do it (doing it now), a Lowes opened by me. They sell the cels and lend you the blower if you buy 20 bags. The machine is a Promax 118, which is their smaller machine, but seems to be blowing the drywall off (see other thread recently posted by me), so I don't know why you want more horsepower. Anyway, you might want to check Lowes and dump another 20 bags in the attic if that would be effective.
Hope this helps a little,
Jerry
Humm, Leows. I don't think there's one in CT. Does anyone know differently? Thanks.Andy Engel, Forum moderator

Well, thanks! There's at least one, maybe two there that are within a reasonable drive from home. Andy Engel, Forum moderator
Andy,
there are several Ring's End Lumberyards in SW CT...there's one not too far from you up in New Milford (888) 350-8966 (toll free).
They sell cells and have blowers as well. Normally they rent the blowers, but I've gotten them free when in a pinch.
As a last resort, how 'bout an article in blowing cells? Ge the manufacturer's to send you one blower, me another, as well as a few other of the CT "locals". We'll use them for a few years...got to check long-term viability of the units, you know...and discuss the results over a hoppy beverage or two?<g>
Rings End? Good idea, there's one in New Milford, which is the next town over from me, and one in Bethel. Thanks Mongo.
We did the cellulose blowing article a couple of years ago, and in fact used my house as the set.

Andy,
I'm close to your area, and rented the machine from the blue box....Did an attic in an older colonial. I think it all worked well. Be prepared to get down&dirty, though!
Robert
CAM, are you kidding? I love the salty taste of cellulose dust.
Mongo, don't know why, but I missed the joke. Bad day, better tomorrow.
Oh, and uh, hey if anybody wants cellulose blowing lessons, it's only $200 a day <G>

I did the deed. Ring's End didn't have one locally, so I drove up to Lowes in Plainville. Nice blower, $10/day, or free if you buy 25 bags of cellulose.Andy Engel, The Accidental Forum moderator
Andy, what did you pay for the cellulose and how far (if you know) away is the manufacturing plant? Size bales? Joe H
They were 25 lb. bales @ $6.92 each. I don't have a clue where they were made. Cocoon brand, but I think they have multiple plants.Andy Engel, The Accidental Forum moderator
Thanks for the info. None of the Lowes or HDs here carry it anymore. They did, but no demand I guess. Think you're right about Cocoon, multiple plants. Joe H
HD doesn't carry cellulose here, it's either Lowes or a specialty supplier.Andy Engel, The Accidental Forum moderator
I remember the article. I was just being a bit tongue-in-cheek regarding blower comparison.
