Hello there,
I have a garden path in my front yard made of Vermont slate, and the material (I do not know if it is mortar, grout or what) between some of the slates is cracked and falling out. I would like to repair it but am not sure what material to use. The slate material is irregular, so some of the gaps are up to 2+ inches between the slates.

The original is probably just mortar -- maybe with some larger sand in the mix.
To repair, I'd use either mortar (not thinset) or maybe Sand Toppong Mix.
