Replace water pump on pressure washer
Not really a homebuilding tool but still a power tool I guess… I have an Excell 2300 psi powerwasher (model vr2300). The outlet pipe has a crack in it. I already tried getting it welded but the weld didn’t hold. The “oem” replacement pump is $200. The pressure washer cost $300 new so spending $200 doesn’t really seem logical. There is an aftermarket pump that is $150 and is described as an upgrade. Has anyone replaced a water pump? Is the water pump at this link any good from what you can scan from this link: http://www.ppe-pressure-washer-parts.com/product/RMW2G24 If you have replaced a pump, is it worthwhile, i.e. do you run into problems with the pump compatibility later? Any issues? If I decide to replace the whole pressure washer, I would spend a bit more in the $400-$500 range. It’s not something I could financially take on right now. The pressure is just for home cleaning outside so I don’t HAVE TO HAVE IT…I would rather go w/o the pressure washer for the time being rather than spend money on a pump that would just be more aggravation than it’s worth.

I had to replace my pump 2 or 3 monthws ago on a Excell 2500. Bought it from the same company that you showed. The original pump was made in Taiwan, had no oil and was made out of aluminum. It lasted no more than 25 hours. The replacement pump was American made, brass, and is an oil type. The 2300 pump is totally different looking, but the company was very knowledgable and reliable. Call them up and discuss your problem with their tech. Ask him if the pump is American made. I think you will be very happy with their service. My unit, although quite different from yours, was very easy to install. If yours cracked it probably froze. Fill it with RV antifreeze at the end of the season.
I just went back to the site to look at that pump. Go down to the bottom of the page to see the pump parts breakdown schematic. That's the same De Vilbuss pump (made in Tiawan) that I had. The upgrade pump is the way to go. The tech will tell you who makes it. Comes with instructions.
Do you feel that the pressure washer performs better with the upgrade? Just trying to gauge the practicality of upgrading the pump.
What are the advantages fot he brass/oil construction vs the aluminum/oilless?
Surprisingly, the upgrade pump was about the same price as the original Tiwianese pump. The upgrade is a lubricated brass pump that will last as long as the engine if properly cared for. The performance is about the same, although the 2300 upgrade lists 2400 lbs. Call them. The tech was very helpful and it costs you nothing.
I already tried getting it welded but the weld didn't hold.
Wasd that your incompetent BIL that tried to weld? Spend the $200 to buy yourself an oxy-acet rig, then silver braze it if copper fitting. Other type brazes depending on if it is a brass alloy.
ANything can be fixed. For $500, you can get a good 4000psi/4GPM used if you look around.
It was a dedicated welding shop. They charged me $30. To be honest, I think because it was such a small job, the guy didn't really want to be bother. I'm not about to try welding it myself...we all have our limits.
"we all have our limits"
Will admit that open heart surgery on yourself is very impractical, as is much (but not all) dental.
Otherwise, it is just a question of time, willingness to learn, etc.
Anybody can be president if they want to work at it enough, look at the present and past 3 for examples.
