Greetings from New Orleans,
Down here in the Big Easy we typically restore the old double-hung windows, but I have a client who insists on new replacement windows. Many yrs. ago I used to use Marvin up in Chicago and I found them to be pretty good.Any thoughts about what’s a decent mid-range priced window these days?Any help would be appreciated.thanks.

Integrity by Marvin is a good product for the money. Still not as cheap as vinyl, but is a better product.
I installed http://www.milgard.com vinyl replacement windows in this house, about ten years ago. They've performed very well.
They are custom made to fit inside the old double hung frames. You simply remove the old sash and install the replacements, from the inside. Takes about one hour per window.
Normally the dealer installs the replacements but they'll sell them uninstalled too.
The price per unit is very reasonable.
Thanks for your input;much appreciated.
Happy to be of help. If you have any other questions, this message board is an excellent resource. I ask questions here on a regular basis.
If they're architecturally appropriate to the building, the Andersen 400 series is a very good window for the buck.
