Replacing Boiler Expansion Tank
I am going to buy a new expansion tank.
Any comments on installation tips or things to watch out for?
My boiler system has shutoff valves to keep most of the water in the system.
I replaced the tank a dozen years ago in the prior boiler system without any difficulties. I’m posting here because I don’t have the (semi) intuitive grasp of these things that I had then. Looks to me like just unscrew the old one and install the new one.
Any comments will be appreciated.

Let me preface this by saying that I am the world's worst plumber.
I just had a friend replace a water heater and the expansion tank on that had a leak in the diaphragm. In order to replace it he had to drain water below the level of the tank (after shutting off the main). The old tank just unscrewed and the new one screwed in. He had a really cool move - install a ball valve in front of the expansion tank. This way you never have to drain the system if the tank goes again. A pretty good bargain for an $8.00 valve.
Having clever friends pays off.
I like that idea. The optimally sited ball valve for the next time.
