Replacing builder grade alcove cast iron tub with cast iron claw foot.
Hello-
so I’m hoping to get some advice and guidance here before I start talking my handyman into this.
I thought I was done with a house I’m fixing up for my mom, but, after going through and pulling out all the old nicotine stained caulk from the old tub/shower combo, I discovered dirt behind the tile; did a little demo, and found a crumbled mud wall and an old termite buffet. Woo hoo! Good times.
Additionally, the current tub has no tile flange to speak of, so now, in addition to scabbing the eaten up framing, I’m leaning hard on replacing the tub so the same issues don’t happen again down the road. I am done with remodeling. Seriously the most stressful thing I’ve ever done.
Anyhow. Here’s what I want to do. Tear out the old tub, make a little riser, tile the floor (the rest of the house is stained concrete), and put in a 54” claw foot tub, utilizing the existing drain. I’m on a slab, and busting up the floor is not something I want to do.
Is this easy enough?
attached is the current view of things.

You shouldn't need to break up any concrete to install a claw foot tub.
