I’m currently remodelling an upstairs bathroom. When I removed the tub I found that the previous owner had cut a floor joist to accomodate the tub drain. I would like to replace this joist as I will be installing a fiberglass tub/shower unit in place of the old metal tub. Am I better off to try to replace it from above by removing a portion of the subfloor or shall I try to get at it from below?
