Replacing HW baseboard section in 5 zone system.
Hi Guys,
I’ve read a few post already on how to do this but non discussed a system with multiple zones. On my system I can close off the zone I need to work on. My questions are:
Do I have to drain the system or can I just drain that zone?
If so how do I drain that zone?
How do I relieve the pressure?
Does the system restore the water and pressure on its own once I open up the zone I worked on or do I need to do anything?
Btw the system is fairly new, 3 years old.
Thanks for your assistance.
Rick

The simplest zoned systems just have a valve at the entry to the zone, so even with the valve closed pressurized water can enter the zone backwards and leak out any opening in the zone. And sometimes the zone control valves do not seal all that tightly as well.
I would not assume you can shut down and work on a single zone until you have assured that there are shutoff valves at both ends of the zone.
